Recognizing Calgary’s best buildings and public spaces at the Mayor’s Urban Design Awards

Do you contribute to the beauty, comfort and vitality of Calgary through urban design? The City of Calgary is looking to recognize your work at the 2015 Mayor’s Urban Design Awards (MUDA)

The Bow Building received the Mayor's Urban Design Award for Urban
Architecture in 2013.
As a city planner, I am especially excited to celebrate this year’s submissions and their contribution to our colourful urban landscape. Quality design, architecture and landscaping can transform a city and make it memorable. MUDA recognizes the most innovative designers, architects and artists who create vibrant buildings and public spaces in Calgary.

In addition to 10 tremendous existing categories, like Community Improvement, City Edge Development and Civic Design, I'm pleased to introduce two new award categories this year: the Green City Award and the People’s Choice Award

The Green City Award recognizes sustainable design practices that seek to reduce energy and resource consumption of buildings while achieving urban design excellence and related social benefits of a project. In addition to those projects submitted to the Green City award for MUDA, Projects recognized from The City of Calgary’s Sustainable Development Inventory will be considered.

The top 10 nominations for the People’s Choice Award will be included in a poll on calgary.ca in October, where you will have the opportunity to vote for your favourite. I also encourage you to share your experience in those buildings and public spaces on social media, like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, using the hashtag #MUDAyyc

MUDA 2015 will also serve as a qualifying event for the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada National Urban Design Awards being held in 2016. Please note, not all MUDA categories are eligible for the national awards.

Submission forms are available on calgary.ca/MUDA. The submission deadline is September 18, 2015.
